Iron-On Edge Banding Stands - Make Banding a Quick & Easy Process
Learn how to apply iron-on edge banding quickly and easily using these shop-made, adjustable edge banding stands. Not all shops have the space or budget for industrial edge banding machines so I designed some stands to streamline the process. The edge banding stands hold the work piece in the optimum position and allow application, trimming and filing of the banding without moving the work piece or handling it more than once. The stands are adjustable for different widths of cabinet parts so that the edge you are working on is always at the right height.
Edge banding melamine or plywood is a basic operation of any cabinet shop large or small. With sometimes large volumes of edge banding to do it is important to be efficient with the process. While iron on edge banding can't compare in speed to industrial edge banders it is the best option for smaller shops like mine. Watch and learn the method that I use for applying, trimming and filing the banding and also learn how to make the stands that I designed. The stands also double as door stands for working on the edges of interior doors when doing finish work. The tools I use are very simple and include an iron, 1" chisel and a laminate file. I share the techniques that I've found helpful in the edge banding process and explain why I use them.
