Circular Saw Cross-Cut Jig - Accurate & Dustless - Pt1
Turn your circular saw into a precision cross-cut machine! Learn how this shop-made circular saw jig works to make deadly accurate and dustless cross cuts.
Whether working in the shop or on site, this jig allows you to make accurate cuts without making a mess when hooked to a dust extractor. A great substitute for a miter saw when all you need is 90 degree cross-cuts.
This circular saw cross-cut jig is simple to make and uses strips of UHMW plastic for the saw to ride on. I used a Bosch CCS180 18V cordless circular saw but the jig can be adapted to just about any circular saw. A custom dust extraction attachment on the Bosch CCS180 allows excellent dust extraction for dustless cuts when hooked to a dust extractor. The jig allows very accurate cuts since your cut line can be easily aligned with the kerf in the fence to make dead on square cuts. I often take this jig along with me to site instead of my sliding compound miter saw when all I need to make is 90 degree cuts. It is a light weight and cordless alternative. The dust collection is also much more efficient than a miter saw so work can be done right in finished spaces making this jig doubly efficient. The Bosch CCS180 has a 6 1/2" blade so a 7 1/4" saw could be used if a deeper cut was required for thicker stock. The jig would have to be built a little higher and bigger to accommodate a bigger saw though. See this jig in action and learn why it has been a favorite of mine.
